Creating a calming bedroom sanctuary

Over the last few months, we’ve spent most of our reno energy working on operation #caravanrevival – a project that just seems to be growing and growing.

Things around the house were starting to feel a little stale, so we decided on a mini bedroom refresh to tide us over until we can stuck into some more significant changes we have planned for the house.

Lots of people say the kitchen is the heart of the home, but for us, it’s definitely the bedroom. No matter what kind of renovation chaos the rest of the house is in, our bedroom always feel like a true refuge from the rest of the world.

So we got to work creating a calming bedroom sanctuary to begin and end our day. Here’s what we did.

Creating a calming bedroom sanctuary

Silky soft bamboo bedding

Some luxe bedding is an important part of any bedroom refresh – and it can also be one of the simplest ways to level up your bedroom. We were kindly gifted a set of beautiful bamboo bedding by YoHome and we chose the green tea colourway. So beautiful and serene.

We had never tried bamboo bedding before, and I couldn’t believe how soft and luxurious this set was. Not only is it a total dream to sleep in, but bamboo also requires less water than cotton and is one of the most sustainable materials on the planet, which is pretty amazing!

As I’ve spoken about on here before, we are always looking for different ways to be more sustainable around the home so it’s great to know that there are fantastic sustainable bedding options available, that don’t compromise on quality.

Just the right amount of light

We have searched for the perfect bedroom lights for our master for what feels like a lifetime, but we could never seem to find the perfect fit. While we wanted them to complement the room, we also wanted them to flow with the rest of the house.

I think that’s particularly important in a smaller house, and while I don’t think each room needs to match per se, I like to keep some consistency – especially with things that a more permanent like light fittings.

When I first laid eyes on the Askel wall lights from Beacon Lighting, I knew I had found the one(s)!

The matte black colouring is the perfect match for the other fixtures around our house (we have all handles and frames as well as black tapware in our laundry – and we’ll upgrade our kitchen and bathroom when we renovate those too). And, the round base also matches the door handles nicely.

The glass is so simple, minimal and modern, yet I feel it could play well with a range of different bedroom styling options. As you might have guessed, I prefer more of a minimal style, and as these aren’t particularly overbearing I can’t see us tiring of them any time soon.

Selecting the perfect piece of art

The most significant change was the addition of our beautiful new artwork by Australian photographer Kara Rosenlund. I’ve been lusting after Kara’s work for some time, and I adore the beautifully serene scenes she captures – and in particular, her iconic Australian imagery.

We chose Kara’s stunning capture of ‘The Pass’ in Byron Bay, which is a hand signed limited edition print in the medium size (50 x 76cm) and had it framed locally. Chris and I have both always lived by the beach and probably always will, and this beautiful piece feels like the perfect addition to our home.

We don’t often invest in pieces like this but the level of detail is just spectacular and it’s such a focal point of this bedroom. Very special!

With a few simple selections, creating a calming bedroom sanctuary in your home can be simple! What’s your favourite feature in your bedroom? Leave me a comment to let me know!

Totally agree that the bedroom is a place of refuge! No matter what’s going on in the world, we always have our cozy safe place. Lighting, like you mentioned is key. We have a bunch of strip lights that change colors in our room and that is a whole vibe.
