Why we love styling our home with natural linen

Linen is one of those truly timeless textiles – and it’s something we love to use to style our home. Whether it’s beautiful, soft bed sheets or fresh, crisp tableware, styling your home with natural linen can add an extra layer of luxury that is reminiscent of days past.

With this in mind, it’s no surprise linen has seen such a resurgence in popularity over the last few years. And, it doesn’t look like the trend is going anywhere any time soon.

Here are some of the main reasons why we love styling with linen – and one of our favourite linen suppliers.

As beautiful to touch as it is to look at

There’s something soothing about the crumpled, unbothered look of natural linen, and it really is the perfect fabric for achieving cosy, lived-in look. While some fabrics beg to be ironed, linen doesn’t abide by the same rules. Most would agree that the crinkles are an important part of the charm!

Aesthetics aside, linen is also one of the dreamiest fabrics to touch and always feels so soft against the skin. Its breathable nature makes it a perfect choice for warm weather, which is particularly beneficial for clothing or bed sheets. 

Easy to care for and improves with age

While other fabrics can sometimes loose their luster after a few washes, linen actually becomes softer and improves with age – provided that it is correctly cared for.

This varies between different products or manufacturers, but most recommend a mild temperature wash with a gentle, liquid laundry detergent. Line drying is best, but if you need to use the drier – make sure to use a low temperature heat.

Sustainably manufactured and made to last

One of the things we love most about linen is that it’s a significantly more sustainable option than cotton. Who knew? Made from the fibers of flax plants, linen uses much less resources than cotton. Linen is also far more durable, due to the natural strength of flax fibers.

While there are always more affordable options around, I don’t mind spending a little extra on linen, as I think of these purchases as investments into products that we’ll love for many years to come.
