Tips for choosing the perfect wall art for your home

Updating your artwork can be a fast way to refresh your home and add more personality into your living space. However, choosing the perfect wall art can be a little overwhelming if you aren’t sure what to look for.

With endless options available, you might wonder how you’ll ever manage to narrow down your favourites – and how to choose the styles best suited to your space. But, decorating your home should never feel like a burden, and you don’t need to follow a strict set of rules to curate a beautiful collection suited to your personal style.

Here are our tips for selecting pieces that spark joy, and sourcing wall art that might just help you fall in love with your home all over again!

Explore your options

If you’re just getting started, spend some time getting a sense of the different options available. There’s a big wide world of art out there, and shopping around can help you to see what catches your eye and what you’re naturally drawn to.

Going online can be a great place to start, as you can browse far more styles than what might be available to you locally, and best of all, you can do it from the comfort of your own home. Instagram and Pinterest can be helpful sources of inspiration, and you can also visit websites of your favourite artists.

Online stores like The Print Emporium who offer a range of photographic and hand-painted prints can be an ideal option, as you can explore various different styles all from one central location.

The Print Emporium provides an extensive range of unique, high-quality stretched canvas art prints, fine art prints and posters, and their extensive range truly has something to suit every home. Their work has been featured in Home Beautiful, House & Garden, Real Living and Three Birds Renovations – just to name a few!

To coordinate or not to coordinate?

When choosing your artwork, you might wonder whether it’s best to coordinate your artwork with your interiors. While art aficionados may disagree, I personally enjoy creating interior spaces that feel cohesive. And, wall art that complements your home can be an important part of that.

While different pieces don’t necessarily need to be from the same series (although, if you’re into it – why not?) but finding an underlying similarity can help. Maybe it’s a certain style of hand-painted print, a key colour scheme, or perhaps a particular vibe?

Over the last few years, we have started adding a selection of photographic prints featuring Australian landscapes to our home, and I absolutely adore them. We love to get out and explore nature whenever we can (something we missed greatly during Melbourne’s extended lockdowns!), and these kinds of pieces just seem to feel like ‘us’.

We have recently added three stunning new prints from The Print Emporium to our collection, and the print and photo quality is so lush! The prints pictured throughout this blog include:

Consider the size of your space

Before making any purchases, it’s important to consider what would work best in the size of your space. If you have a big blank wall you’re looking to fill, a large statement piece can work wonders. Or, perhaps you might consider creating your own gallery wall.

If you’re looking to add a little personality to a smaller space, anything too big can leave the area looking overcrowded. However, something too small won’t look right, either. So, rather than taking a guess as to the dimensions you’ll need, grab your tape measure and work out exactly the right size you’ll need.

If you’re more of a visual person, it can be helpful to (carefully) mark up the walls with painting tape. Or, you can even cut some cardboard to the size you think you need and position it in place to be sure. This way, you’re guaranteed to get the size that’s just right for your home.

Choose what you love

At the end of the day, you are the one who will spend the most time looking at your wall art – so it’s important to choose what you love over what’s on trend. Beautiful artwork that reflects your personality and complements your style can truly bring a home together.

And, while it’s definitely a worthwhile investment, you really don’t need to spend big to curate a collection you will love for many years to come. We hope these tips help you to choose the perfect wall art for your home, and be sure to take a look at the beautiful range from The Print Emporium. Thanks for stopping by!
